Help with BC796D

Just got this scanner today, program in all the freq. But one problem. THe scanner works great for a little bit but then it gets stuck on one control channel. You hear talking and then just hissing sound. It does not search the other control channels. If i hit scan again, it works again for awhile but then goes to that one control channel and stays there again.

Don't have this problem with my Pro96. What am I doing wrong.

Need to post more info. Motorola type I or II.? What other control ch's.? Normally there are only two. Pri and Alt. Also post your location. May have to post this on you STATE forum.

Live in Bucks County PA. System is Motorola type II. Running the Pr096 and the BC796 side by side. On my Uniden, its fine for awhile but then sits on a single channel. I hear talking and then a buzzing sound. It does not move on to other channels. My Pro96 is working fine
The only way to get it to scan again is to hit the search/scan button. But once it goes to the one channel, it get stuck again.

This is very fustrating. Please HELP

I've had the same problem. It happens from time to time but not frequently enough to really bother me. I just hit the scan or resume button and it continues on!

Mine happens about every minute. Hope someone here know how to solve it because it is annoying to keep hitting the scan or RSM button

What channel/freq is it hanging on? How many control channels are you using and which banks are being used?

Although I have no idea what procedure you used to program your scanner. you must have done somethig wrong.

I have a 796D scanner that works just fine. I don't even have the audio problems some people experience.

I have the control channels (ONLY) for three different towers programmed into separate banks. The scanner checks eack control channel for a couple of seconds for activity, and if there is no activity, goes on to the next bank, etc. If it does find activity, it jumps to the working channel and allows me to hear the conversation. When the conversation is over, the scanner goes back and scans the control channels again.

I DO NOT have any of the working channels programmed into my scanner (that's a waste of time), only the control channels. The scanner finds the working channel by itself. By choosing Plan 2, the scanner can jump to any of the possible working frequencies.

Help BC796

The system is a Motorola II on the 500 mhz range. THe channnel that it stops on is 501.6625. As mentioned before I have the Pro96 all channels in one bank and it works fine. For some reason for the BC796D, it stops on this one channel and I have to hit the scan button for it to resume scanning.

It sounds as if there may be something in your area which the radio is picking up and holding the sqelch open after the end of the conversation. Try setting the Attenuator to Yes on that channel in the programming and see if that helps.

Did not work. I starting losing transmission when they went to that channel. By putting the ATT to Yes, it basically stop on the frequency but got no audio from it.

Any other ideas that i could try

Hmmm, what do you hear if you just tune the frequency in and hold on it? I mean, is the noise there when that is the case? Is it something in the room? Does relocating the scanner/antenna make any difference?

I guess we need more details as to the source of the noise than anything else. Another thought, does anyone have a list of the birdies on the 796?

If i stay on the channel, I hear voices here and there and when there is no voice a hear a buzzing sound.

I will try to move the scanner to another location to see if this helps

Moved the scanner and all is fine now. It was by a phone and router.
Seems fine now.

You should always make your 796d wear its screen mask when exposed to the computer forums. :roll:
