I need help with the BCES system.
I programmed the P25 system with free scan and uploaded it to my 996t and 396xt and I can not hear any traffic.
This is not the first P25 system I have programmed so I can't figure out why it's not working.
please help.
Thanks.

With either your 996 or 396, push the hold button when scanning. Did it lock onto a control data channel (do you hear the buzzing) ? If so, do you see it displaying the system and site ID's ? If not, manually step through the channels you have to see if it starts to receive the control channel. Did you program in ALL of the system channels or only what the DB shows for the primary and secondary control channels? I would make sure that all the channels are programmed in because the system may have moved the control channel to something different than what the DB might show. Lastly, are you sure you programmed this system in as P25 and not "standard" ?

yea I moved here about a week ago.

Ok I had it as a mot type II / P25 duh!
I changed it to P25 and it's working ok...
I've noticed some of the traffic has very poor audio, any suggestions?
I had the P25 wait time at 0 and then reset it back to the factory 400ms but I have not noticed any improvement.

So far 90% of the traffic I'm hearing over here is very poor quality very digital but the signal strong or it stops on a channel and no audio at all..

Yep this is what I got as well when I was passing through back in late September.

I presume you have the latest firmware update for your 396XT?

Even with the latest update, my 996XT didn't have much luck with that system. It was very flaky to say the least.

I have been listening to them since they went digital on a RS PRO 197. It has never sounded good thought it was just my antenna. I usally have good signal on meter but sounds like they are underwater about half of the time. Talked to a radio tech for different company and he stated it is not much better on the network itself ???

location, location location, it will not work as good as the old analog. Find a sweet spot in the house or raise an antenna. I found some dead spots off Columbia Dr near the old "Cloverleaf" roundabout. I helped a guy a year ago troubleshoot his Pro106, it worked better having an outside antenna, but still marginal. If you experiment with over the air digital tv, you'll understand why its needs more capture effect to keep the signal as compared to analog.

I did some tweeking to the P25 decode level and the best number for both scanners seems to be 175.
The mobile and handheld are preforming the same.
Thanks for all the info!

I dont suppose there is any local scanner clubs or anything like that in the tri-cities?
