Using a Pro 97 scanner and Win97.

I downloaded this page of data to Win97 via web import and uploaded to my scanner.

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=2856

My scanner shows Glendale 1-10 in channels 1-10 followed by Burbank 1-7
and has the proper frequencies for all. Also shows all the related talkgroups
as shown on the page, but when I monitor Burbank 01 I only hear a sawtooth
noise. My alpha display says.. MOT: Sys-891D 99%. This display occasionally changes to say BPD Dispatch and I occasionally hear the low freq tone which I guess indicates end of transmission but I never hear any voice just the loud sawtooth noise.

Sometimes I hear a bit of voice transmission on Glendale 10, I also usually get the same
sawtooth noise on Burbank 04

The RR page above indicates Analogue and Apco-25 Common air interface. Doesn't this mean My Pro 97 should recieve ? The sawtooth noise I hear certainly sounds like a digital
signal, has the system dropped the analogue or is there some setting I need to look for ?

BTW all this happens while sitting dead center in city of Burbank.

Thanks for any suggestion

Even Verdugo Fire iis now on the ICIS System and digital. The Pro97 will no longer work for Burbank and Verdugo Fire transmissions. You'll have to upgrade to a "digital" scanner. I use the BCD396T (handheld) and the BC-796D (base).

Thanks. If I'm hearing that sawtooth signal is that always sign that I'm on a difital frequency, and never a sign of some other issue ?

I thought the Pro97 at the black friday sale price would be a good starter unit for me
but it seems there is too much in LA area that I can't hear. LAPD and BPD is a problem.

I also have a Pro97. I use it as my "Fire" scanner. LA City, LA County, Cal Fire, USFS, San Bernardino County Fire, Fire Air Attack, etc. (Unfortunately, as discussed above, as of November Verdugo Fire no longer works). Since you appear to be from Santa Clarita, the Pro97 will work with LA County Sheriff's as well.

We have a place in Wrightwood and the Pro97 is the perfect handheld for everything you need to hear up there. Even though San Bernardino County is trunked, it isn't digital so the Pro97 works very well.

Not sure exactly what your describing by "sawtooth", but I'd bet, yes it's digital your hearing. A trunking control channel sounds more like "chunga chunga, chunga." :O)

I've been learning mostly and listening to LAC Sheriff and Metrolink. I ride the train daily from Santa Clarita to Burbank then drive between Burbank and job in Hollywood. I'm not really interested in owning multiple scanners. Because of my Burbank and Hollywood locations I want to hear those PD's. I still have a few days to exercise my 30 day return at Radio Shack. I like the idea of a newer design and smaller unit than a Pro96 as well. I guess I better decide quickly what I should switch to.

I would return it. Glendale will dispatch in digital someday when they get more radios, and Pasadena is switching next year. Plus a lot of LAFD command staff now have ICIS equipped radios. Also, I am now using a Radio Shack metal extendable antenna with an SMA adapter on my 396D, and it is getting Verdugo/ICIS clearer than any other combination I have tried so far.
