I don't have one of these, but, in many other posts about various models it comes down to pressing the right key to allow the scanner to "talk" to the pc. In my case, I have to tell most of my unidens to talk, what bps, and then E for Enter (often left out of the instructions). Good Luck

If the 97 is similar to the 92 95 and 96 then no key has to be pressed.

You need to find the correct com port for your USB Cable..
and then change the com port in the software you are using.

Really, I'm all the sudden partial to RS; never cared either way before.

For Windows XP, go to the "control panel" then "system" (you may have to switch to classic view) then click on the "harware" tab. Click the "device manager" button the the plus sign next to ports. The port you want to select will be next to "USB Serial Port"

If you are using Win97 you need to change the srial port under the "configuration"menu.

Hope this helps!
