Hi folks,

I have tried to search the archive for this answer but came up empty.

I have a IBM thinkpad A31p and I can run trunker just fine. Etrunker will not run though.... I have tried in windows and in the dos prompt. In windows it tried to run but will stop showing info after 10 seconds or so. Wont do anything if run from dos prompt.

Slicer shows a good inverted DSR signal at the 9 pin port and if I use a different PC with XP it works just fine. I am using a BC895 and the latest non edited version of trunker/etrunker found on RR.com

Are there any known problems that allow trunker to run and Etrunker not to?

Thanks!

Every computer is different and although some have been able to get trunker working in an XP enviroment it is hard to say why your laptop will not cooperate. :)

Remember, this is a DOS program.

I would recommend that you first get trunker working from a true DOS prompt. This will uncover any hardware related issues that need to be addressed before you tackle getting it to work in Windows.

Are you sure you read everything about trunker and etrunker? I know you have a good invert a the 9 pin port but..... If I can remember there might be an issue with a lower power availability for laptops com ports and the fix was to replace a diode or resistor. I would have to look the post up. Hope this helps.

I already ran slicer....I get a great DSR signal running slicer... If the laptop couldnt power the slicer I doubt I would be able to run trunker without any problems as I can. Or would I???

I have found no reference to a slicer working on trunker and not working on etrunker because of power problems and I have searched this forum with every keyword I could think of. Thats not to say the answer is not there....just havent stumbled acros it yet. Everything I have seen seems to indicate if one works they both should. Voltage check shows +12.4 at the slicer.

When I tune to a EDACS control channel, slicer show a very good DSR signal but it will not track. Flip over to a moto channel and switch to reg trunker and all is well.

Im going to get make the boot disk and work on it some tonight.

Thanks for the replies folks!

How fast is your laptop? What kind of processer? This to might have an issue.

Here are some links I found about power issues. I don't know if you seen them or not but check into them. I think I have a file that I downloaded about replacing a diode or something. Also could a diffrent type of slicer help?

Are you running the correct etrunk.exe file? There are two of them, etrunk.exe for 9600 control channel and etrnk48.exe for 4800. Also try running etrunk before running trunker. I am using the Mtrunker for windows. I found out on my system if I run Mtrunker before running anything else I have to drop to dos and type NET STOP LOGICANALYZER. This is a serial port driver for Mtrunker. For some reason it is not closing when I stop Mtrunker and if I dont close it manually nothing else will run on that port until I stop it or reboot.

I have found that the ONLY WAY I can run ETrunker on my laptop is to run it in straight DOS. It will not work for me if Windows is running (using DOS prompt).

I run Probe on my laptop in a open dos window works fine. I wonder what really is the diffrence between Probe and a trunker program? Maybe the type of laptop and/or processer. :? :?: :? :?:

The difference is the high interrupt rate an EDACS control channel creates. Etrunker must be run in DOS. If it works at all in a DOS window, the decoding accuracy will be poor. I tried it on a 2 GHz laptop in a DOS window under Windows XP and it did run, sort of. Decoding was below 70% on a system that is 100% in DOS.

Probe takes over complete control of the scanner's processor.
Your computer does the scanning, the scanner is just a receiver.

Trunker OTOH merely uses the data coming from the scanner's baseband audio via a slicer.

I run both (not at the same time) from my IBM Thinkpad 380E using
Win98 from a DOS window and have never had a problem.
I haven't had a chance to try Etrunk on there yet, but it is in there.

FWIW on my dedicated Trunker computer (a 233 MHz. Pentium) I can run Etrunk in Win98SE's DOS window, but only on local systems. While in straight DOS I get 100 % accuracy from within Windows 98SE I only get about 50% to 55%. Since I live almost within spitting distance of one of the simulcast sites, this says something.

I have never been able to get Etrunker to work in WinXP or Win2K, although the Motorola version works pretty well.
