Hello everyone, I just downloaded Freescans version 8e and have been studying the users guide for several days, but still have some questions. I am expecting a BCD396xt this week and want to get a head start learning the system before it gets here. I am also waiting for my premium membership to R.R. to be activated. I am new to scanner programming software and will no doubt have many more questions in the weeks ahead, but here is the first: After copying system info from clipboard one is presented with the pull down menu's for fields 1 thru 8. I noticed from the user's guide that their example had column 1 as frequencies, 2 as tones, ect. I copied a list from trunktracker fleetcall and noticed the only options available are ; Ignore,TGID,Name,Comment,Name+Comment. How can I change these to reflect the format for which the RR tables will be in? I hope I've explained the situation sufficiently, if not then please let me know and I will clarify. Thanks in advance, T.T.

Once you've got the premium membership activated, you won't have to use that procedure of copying to and from the clipboard. You will import from RR into FreeScan by means of the File | Import | From Radio Reference command and won't have to worry about identifying the content of the various fields.

Using that command, you will identify the country, state, and county and then choose the system that you want to import. It will give you a choice of groups to check or uncheck. You click on Import and it's done.

Hope this is helpful.

EZ Grab

OK, I was wondering about that. Once the membership is activated it will all start to come together, more to be revealed I'm sure. Thanks a bunch, I will probably have a thousand more questions, but you've been a great help. T.Y., John.

You have two types of systems, conventional and trunked. I'm not sure what exactly you want to copy but it sounds like regular frequencies. In this case, create a new conventional system. When you click on a group and bring up EZ Grab, it will then ask you for what frequency, tone etc you want to use.

Hope that helps.

If I recall correctly, premium membership doesn't provide additional data, but rather the ability to download the data that's there to various programs directly rather than having to enter it manually or to get it by cut and paste. There are some additional features as well. Click on the "About" button at the top of the page for more info.

Thanks Mike

Yes , this is the guide I've been studying in preparation for the arrival of the 396xt, ( is this what an expecting parent feels like?) and it's all beginning to make sense now. I've been scanning for many years, (my first was a Fanon 4 channel handheld0, but in terms of scanner programming software I am a "newbie". This really does open up a whole new realm of possibility and I'm really excited to begin exploring. I know I'll have many questions here in the near future but I also know now that you guys will have the answers, if this previous experience is any indicator. Will you be making an announcement on this forum when the updated material for 8e is incorporated in the user's guide?
