Hey everyone, I have a Radio Shack Pro-97 Scanner, It's "Triple Trunking" & "800mhz"...

I can not receive MIRS on my scanner. State police come in fine, as do all conventional freq's, but the MIRS freq is just all static... am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for your help.

99% of the Morris County trunked system is digital. Your scanner is incapable of decoding digital.

Thank you for your quick reply. I was afraid it would be that. Do you recommend any digital scanners that are easy to program?

Also, do the digital scanners automatically decode, or do I need to go through a PC and all that?

Thank you much,
Nick

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9930; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.11+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.1.0.402 Mobile Safari/534.11+)

I would recommend the Uniden 396XT if you are wanting a handheld. The last firmware update really improved the digital decoding quality.

There is free software called FreeScan that makes programming the newest Unidens a breeze, as you don't want to try programming one of the new models by hand (and my memory file is linked here in my signature - many members here use mine & just upload the systems they want into their units).

If you are contemplating selling that 97, please get with me in a private message. I have need of a 97 for a discriminator-tap receiver project...

The latest scanners decode automatically - no PC needed.

Thank you very much! I have placed a bid on that model on ebay just a few minutes ago :)

I will let you know if I decide to sell, It's pretty beat up though.

So I got my 396Xt today and I love it! It decodes perfectly! Thanks again for all your help!

Do you have any experience with ARC-XT from Butel, The programming software?

P.S. I have a spare reg key if you need one for it. It's much easier than freescan.

Back in the day, when I had a 396T, the Butel software was one of the only decent software packages of the time. I have a copy of ARC-XT that I inherited from a friend when he jumped to the PSR-800, but I never really wanted to go back after using FreeScan for so long.

My only wish is that Assaf would adjust the software so that you can't choose options that don't pertain to your model (i.e. - spent WAY too long on my true P25 systems setting the audio mode on talkgroups to 'Digital Only', to then recognize that the 396XT ignores that data, etc.).

There is a 'hidden' settings menu in the 396XT & 996XT that lets you adjust the P25 decoding at a root level. I believe the defaults are Mode=11, Level=50. Try using what many of us are having good results with: Mode=8, Level=125.

This menu is accessed by holding down the 'HOLD' key while you power-up. Then go into 'Settings'.

I set the values you gave. Let's see if it makes a difference. Thanks again man, your a wizard with this stuff.

Only thing I can't figure out now... I set 3 systems... 1 conventional, 2 trunked... I can't figure out how to bank them, so I can turn them on/off when I like to. Any advice?

If you opened my FreeScan file, you would see I have every system assigned to its own QuickKey. This makes toggling separate systems on & off very quick...

I uploaded your file, but quickKeys don't seem to work. I press "1" for example and it doesn't show/confirm anything... just a beep.

You had me concerned there - if you uploaded EVERYTHING in my file cart-blanche, the unit should have come up scanning Somerset County's TRS (QK #2). Morris is on QK #14, etc...
