I didn't know what other forum to post this in so I figured I'd try it here.

I'm deaf and need help translating some morse code into text. I have the mp3 file with the code on it and was looking for some kind of software to translate it and my internet search led me here. I never did find any software to do the trick so I was hoping somebody here could help.

Thanks in advance

There are several programs that decode code. I don't know if any will do it from a MP3 file. Maybe you could play the code from an iPod type player into you PC

fldigi is one such program

Question. Are you wanting to translate a specific recording or is this an ongoing project? I would be glad to translate a single file for you if that is all you want done.

Software doesn't care about the source but there's a problem, they're all prone to errors. Best you have it manually translated until you learn the code. Before you ask, deaf hams can copy Morse using devices that translate audio to light. That goes a bit beyond the scope of this discussion, chances are you'll find what you need here.

I have found fldigi does the best a lot of others just a bit of noise do not copy.
Now if you want the AMERICAN CODE, go to morsekob and download the program <free>, it will print out what the stn says very close and if you want to type in something and it will send the message also. If your interested in that I will search for the chnl after you download it, I forgot the chnl.

K9WG,
Since I'm new here the site won't let me contact you via PM or e-mail. Suggestions?

Thank you very much. Your time is greatly appreciated.

Post the MP3 on here through SoundCloud and we'll all have a go at decoding it!

I'm not familiar with SoundCloud. K9WG was very nice in offering to help me but if for some reason that falls through I'll give SoundCloud a try.

Thank you very much everybody.

Just upload the file somewhere. We can (I can) simply listen to it and type in what is sent. Easy as pie. Done in 2 minutes.
