• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You got a pair of XTS5000s at a garage sale? WTF?

Anyway,.... you will need the software and cable if there isn't a menu in the screen named FPP.

I was thinking the same thing. Must be shopping in the wrong places. But then we don't have to run the serial numbers

I was just gonna use them for snowboarding keep in my backpack and give one to my buddy and we could talk if we loose each other. Would they work for something like that?

You'd be better off using GMRS or FRS radios for that type of stuff.

XTS5000s are usually only found at yard sales and flea-markets when they are stolen. Just curious, are the serial number stickers still on the radios? What do they do when you try to talk from one radio to the other? Do the displays match on each radio when you change the channels? What are the model numbers?

In order to program them, you would need the software from Motorola. This costs about
$325.00. then you would need a programming cable for about another $180. Don't
forget the computer to run the software on.

next you will need to know how to work your way through the software. By the way,
they call it RSS for Radio service Software. The newer versions are called CPS.

I would be real careful with playing around with those radios on what ever channels
the are on currently. Hard to tell what public safety agency those came from. If they were
laying around for any length of time, the batteries should be stone dead. You didn't indicate
that you had the chargers to go with the radios.

I use those radios all the time and respect what they do.

Jim

You never answered the question about the SERIAL NUMBERS. You know. Are they STILL on the radios?

If the plastic is STILL on the face of them, they may have been stolen BEFORE they were EVER programmed!

Might be info in them saying who MOTO sold them to.

No ome has told you yet what ONE of those radios cost NEW with all of the Motorola trunking options (like Omnilink) and then, if it has the scramble option, geez....

Without the scramble board in ours, we paid right $5,000 EACH for them. And, that was on State bid pricing.

Umm... I think you guys are being strung along here. What do you think is more possible, he bought 2 brand new XTS5000 radios at a garage sale or wanted to see how excited he could get people?

While there are tons of people who like to troll RR members and forums, there are also tons of XTS5000s and other high-end radios that have been 'falling off the back of trucks' lately. IIRC the Army just lost an entire pallet or two of them.

Just check out eBay right now, there are tons of 123ABC1234 and other "no sticker on back" radios flooding the market right now. That's really frustrating to me, because you know they have to be either stolen or parts radios, and they're so tempting but you'd be pretty much guaranteed to get in gack if you ever had to send those off for repair.

I would love to find an FPP XTS5000 VHF and I would not care if it has a bad S/N ,but my funds prevent such a buy.
