Hello,

I just moved into my own home (owned/buying). This is my first chance in my life to have a "real" antenna. In my old home I used a 100 foot balanced wire with good results other then noise from neighboring devices and whatnot.

Now, I have hooked up a bit of wire here and just strung it around my room. RF wise it is nice to live in a place with such a low noise floor. I live on 5 acres here and houses are view able but a good distance away. My laptop and satellite modem make a bit of noise and required being shut down.

I would like to do something a bit more proper here. Really worried about lightening as I have no trees around me or even close and any antenna I would put outside would surely be a target. Wind is also an issue as there is nothing around me to break the wind and the last couple days of living here has proven the wind can get pretty powerful.

I have kids so I would not be able to put anything up they could get into (they would surely listen while I was watching, not watching whom knows (we were all curious kids at one time :D). I will drill into the floor to get my coax outside.

I am looking for options (not wanting to break the bank) and safety is a real concern. I read so much ground don't ground, do this not that and do this instead. I am just really confused.

Thanks in advance for the help.

EDIT: I guess I should have added this is for HF for now with maybe more in the future.
