Help with new BC296D

Can anyone give me simple instructions to set up a new BC296D scanner to copy the Michigan 800mhz police frequencies. I just got this radio at the Dayton Hamvention but the manual is very confusing to program this thing. Help please

This Word doc may help. Pressing the VFO or E on the 785/796 will produce the same results in many cases. This may not be true with the 250/296.
