• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Alright so I’ll admit it I fell for the trap and believed that the description saying they are gmrs radios meant just that 🤷‍♂️ Well they are not gmrs radios hence the quotation in the title….. so now I have a set of 4 radios that don’t talk to my other gmrs radios 😞 what to do well to start I set my gmrs radios to scan just in case and no luck so thankfully I have an sdr so plug that in and go looking well what do you know they are broadcasting on 70 centimetre ham band okay really not legal but while we’re at it we may as well dig deeper so the pitiful manual says that they are programable well online I go to find out how to do that basically no one knows I have chirp so I try some some common options like bf888 ect no luck moving on I’m like okay I won’t program them for now I’ll just try using them with my baofeng so program in the frequency check it on the sdr and we should be good to go well not so fast the baofeng receives them but when you tx on the bf the rx light on the ostazt comes on but no audio so find out that if I hold monitor it doesn’t need a pl code and just listens and sure enough now I can hear the baofeng through the ostazt my conclusion it needs a pl tone to rx so I try scanning for pl tones on my baofeng no luck so my big question is how do I find out what tone it needs when there is no way to tell on the radio no display and I can’t check from programming software any help with this issue would be much appreciated as well as any help with any of the other problems who knows maybe we can figure out how to program these that would be super as they are great radios have great range even with the stalk antenna nice audio quality and really good big battery. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

First, I assume you mean these radios: https://www.amazon.ca/Walkie-Rechargeable-Portable-Handheld-Earpiece/dp/B085FRNKTQ

In researching those radios, they have a Industry Canada certification, but not a FCC certification, so they cannot be used in the USA. Based on the reddit threads, and lack of other information, I would recommend they be filed in the circular bin. Nobody has had luck programming them, and they are likely narrowband. The fact that your SDR shows RF in the Ham frequencies further shows you should get rid of them.

Long story short, don't buy any radio without an FCC certification. Chalk it up to a lesson learned, and replace them.

Without programming software or a scanner that can search for the CTCSS/DCS tone, you would have to manually program in each CTCSS/DCS tone into your Baofeng and try them individually until you find it.

If I was you, I'd send them back to Amazon and leave an appropriately worded review so someone else doesn't fall for this. Looking at the page that tweiss3 linked to, others already have.

Usually not a good idea to purchase radios based off looks alone.

Yes those are the radios.

I definitely see what you are saying definitely lesson learned
As for not being fcc certified that’s fine because I am in Canada anyway was hoping to get them to work with the rest of my equipment but it looks like for now that won’t be happening. Thanks for the input.

Yes I definitely should have done some research don’t know why I didn’t but was hoping for something more durable than baofengs and also I thought these were cheaper because I own a baofeng bf f8hp which from what I recall was more than the ostazt but then I realized that the uv5r is quite cheap and I think is actually cheaper than the ostazt radios so I ended up getting one of the uv 5r so long story short check some reviews before you buy and make sure you are actually getting a deal. Thanks all for the input.

Thanks all for the input.

If you have a valid GMRS license, and you are looking for better radios, there is some really good used commercial stuff that will beat the pants off the Cheap Chinese radios. It'll cost you more, but you'll get a radio that will work as intended.

yep, more one chip (RDA trash) wonders from Boaturd Inc. Notice they actually have the words "Commercial Radio" on the front housing. This reminds me of the cheap 1980s Hong Kong drug store brand personal stereos that always proudly declared "AM FM STEREO HEADSET RADIO" on the front of the cheap plastic thing in some knock off Letraset typeface, or the graphic EQ curve printed on the front, as if there were a team of audiologists huddled around the POS with clipboards in lab coats.
