I posted this in the MI forum with no good answer so thought this would be the next best place. Im wondering what is the best way to program a 800mhz p25 system for traveling. Wondering if programing all the towers Freq for my trip into one TSYS or is it better to separate each tower into separate TSYS's? I hope this makes sense.

When i visited MI coming from ILL i programmed the towers seperatly that i would be traveling by namely the ones in the Berrian Co area and they worked fine....On the Uniden models you can create a "Custom Search" of the 800 band and do Cchannel only and it stops on every tower you go past and reads out the activity on the active TG's...I like the Uniden 396XT better.....

I have the psr 500 and programmed the New Jersey State Police system and someone on here stated the roam and stat slow down the scanner. Is there any truth to this post. Currently I have the A & C system and have it set to off.

I'm not to sure but for my Pro 106 Roam is looking for the strongest signal to lock onto. As for the stat I think that is to lock onto any towers close by you probaly a mile or less. I myself have not noticed not to much difference. I'm not sure how they quite work. .

Thanks for all the replies. I got thinking and I remember I only have a few V-folders filled on my pro 106 so maybe ill program one with all towers separate then another v folder with them all in one and see which one works better on my next trip.

I agree, off is the best setting.

I would put all of the control channels in one system and set it to multisite roam, personally.

Stat would possibly slow it down, but whether that's a bad thing or not is up to you to decide. If you turn multisite off (or set it on roam), you'll only hear traffic on one site (whichever it locks onto first, which if they're both within range will probably be the first one in the control channel list).

As for the stat I think that is to lock onto any towers close by you probaly a mile or less.

Stat has it listen to every site that it can receive. For example, I can regularly receive three sites on my state's trunked system. When it's set to STAT, it listens to all three of those for traffic. If it was set to roam, it would stop on the first control channel where it was getting a 95% decode rate (or whatever I wanted to set it to). If multisite is off, it would stop on the first control channel period.

Entering talkgroup IDs

I am new to scanner, but not radio prgramming. I have a P25 group working, and hearing all talkgroups. How does one enter specfic tg ids, and hear only those groups. The line in the Win500 software shows wildcard, and will not accept changes.

Not to highjack the thread, but I would like to know how to enter LTR talkgroups, too.

Thanks in advance.

To add TGs to a Scan List, select the TSYS that you want, Click on the list of TGs below it, Then Edit -- New Item at End". This will add a Wildcard, then change it to what you want.If you have a premium subscription to RR, you can import your P25 TGs directly. Hope this helps.

Now Larry is the best setting off only when traveling or do you recommend even when monitoring from my home?

Both. It works at home, as well as, mobile. When I was visiting family in Ohio, I set the Ohio MARCS to OFF with multiple CC frequencies in the TSYS. It picked up the strongest tower and locked onto that CC. Never had a problem.
