Hello, I recently purchased a Uniden BCD996PT for my father for Christmas. I am using ProScan to try and program frequencies for my local county into it. I used RR imports to gather the frequencies and uploaded to the scanner but now i can only pickup EMS (partially) and very minimal fire event channels. I cannot pick up fire dispatch. The county system is a p25 standard phase 2. I am very green in the radio programming world and ANY help is much appreciated.

You list Duplin, which is a county in NC. You mention the county system is standard phase 2. The only system that comes (public safety related) up in Duplin is the Viper but that's a phase 1. Is viper the county system you are referring to or is it a different system?

As mentioned its showing as a Phase I system that the 996P2, - which I believe is what you have and you made a typo on the model# that it can do.

From what I see at the Viper link, make sure you put in all four tower sites. Chinquapin, Kenansville, Kornegay & Wallace.
Make a new Site within the Duplin setup for each towers control frequencies.
Duplin county talkgroups are ~1/4 down. After putting these talkgroups, be sure to set the radio to ID Scan, instead of ID Search.

Also dont need to program in the frequencies that are in black as those are the voice frequencies. You only need to put in the red control frequencies as you will also find the radio is more responsive as well doing so.

Here are the analog frequencies and are you just putting these in? From here they likely are using the digital Viper system instead.

I recently purchased a Uniden BCD996PT

Welcome to the forums!

If you purchased the scanner brand new, it's most likely a BCD996P2. If you purchased it used, it might be either a BCD996XT or a BCD996P2

The actual model number could make a difference as to what you can receive with it. For instance.... The BCD996XT can not monitor Phase 2 systems, but the BCD996P2 can.

My apology, I am in Onslow County. I'm not sure as to why Duplin is selected.

I am located in Onslow County. The scanner was purchased brand new. just removed from the packaging this morning. I wonder if it is an issue with reception. I have just moved it and noticed a little more activity on fire main.

The front of the scanner says BCD996P2

Is there a better option for a base station antenna rather than the telescoping? I found one on Uniden warehouse but I'm not sure if the connections are the same.

Assuming you are trying to program this system:
It's huge!
Here is an "Easier to Read" manual for the scanner:

You need to enter the System first, then add frequencies then Talk Groups.

Someone familiar with the system will be able to assist.

Good luck!

If you can put your proscan file here so we can look at it? In freescan software that I have, it shows how it can read in .mem & .m96 file extensions that I think Proscan uses one of those?

Are you still using the trial version of Proscan or bought it? Once we/I see your programming, I can either suggest the edits or in freescan save it on here. I dont have Proscan is why.

Use my message, then for Onslow for tower sites be sure to include, Holly Ridge, Jacksonville & Richlands with Onslow about 1/2 way down for talkgroups.
