Hello All,
I just received my Uniden SDS100 and have upgraded the firmware and database using Sentinel. When I plugged in my zip code (34285), I am receiving transmissions from a number of different sources around the county of Sarasota. Fire, Sherriff's office, etc. But, I don't seem to see anything popping up for Venice, Florida, my home town. I'm right next to the airport and I am guessing there are several towers there. I'm right on the island which is only a few miles from downtown. I'm just wondering if I need to do something special to get the local Venice PD. Thanks in advance for helping a newbie.
Kind regards,
SE.

nearest tower is 721 center rd. (fire dept) next to the "Y".
so that would be within 3 miles of you.
the SDS, from what people say handles simulcast well, so it probably is just that Venice is that slow.
i have been listening since you posted and have heard nothing from the PD.

thanks for your your reply…. I tried the same thing and listened to Venice PD only for a few hours and nothing. And yes, I’m on the south side of Venice Island so I’m close enough to the tower.

Venice PD is dispatched via Sarasota SO, forgot if it was Central or South. They have a few side channels to themselves but don’t expect much traffic on them. It’s a small city. 90% of the radio traffic will be on the SO channels.

thanks! Yes, had the Venice only on for a few hours and nothing, but plenty of chatter from the Sarasota Sheriffs Office. I’m wondering if there’s a way using discovery to pick up the local PD. Im a newbie, so I am going to back up and start reading about how these systems work.

this is one way, but it only works for less than 1 mile.
manually put in the trunked system's input frequencies.
if you sat in the station's parking lot, or nearby, you should catch something.
again, if you don't hear them on the output, this would be a big waste of time.
it is useful if you are on the scene of something big. but that is all.

Venice PD are the 7000 series units on SO South (A2) if I remember correctly.
