• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey guys

I have a VX-920 radio witht he UHF board installed. My question is i am sending the radio to the dealer for reprogramming next week. Does or will the the radio scan acorss the whole radio in other words if i have 3 banks of 16 A, B and C . Will the radio scan across all three (I.E 1 channel in bank a , 2 in bank b and 4 in bank C, like the ht1550). And does the radio have priority scan, will in decode MDC 1200

thanks Scott

I have a vx924 UHF w/ VHF board and I do my own programming. Scanning is the one thing that I really don't understand on the radio. It does multigroup scanning with the user scan list. The user can add and remove groups and channels from the scan list. It appears to me (I could be wrong) that it doesn't check any priority channels when in multigroup scan mode. The closest thing i found to the Motorola line of radios is "Follow-Me" scan. This sets the priority channel to what ever channel you have selected, but not in multigroup scan. I could not find much information on the internet about the radio so I am looking forward to see some responses on how people set up their scanning.

Vertex Scanning

When you are in the programming screen, in the columns to the right of the frequencies, tones, etc..., there is a column that says "SC." For the channels that you want to scan all the time, change the setting to B (both). For the channels that you use occasionally, and that you want to become a scan channel when you navigate to the channel and then push the scan button (i.e. a fire tactical channel that you only want to scan some of the time), change the setting to "U" (user). That will add the channel to the scan list only when it was the last channel selected before pushing the scan button.

For channels that you want to scan all the time, make the SC setting "D" (dealer set).

That should do it....

The radio will not decode MDC-1200 unless you have purchased and installed an VDME-200 accessory board.
