• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I just found an XTS2500 sitting on the tailgate of my truck about a week ago and being the geek that I am I was curious to mess with it. I ordered a charger from ebay and just got it in today and was curious if I should be able to turn it on after about 15 mins of charging or if it would turn on in the charger or is it busted?

Thanks

If the battery is ok, then it should turn on in 15 min, do you have a volt meter to check the battery? If it is indeed ok, and the radio still wont turn on, then my guess it has been disabled by the system admin. Of course the radio could just be broken.

No volt tester but after leaving it on the charger over night here is what happens when I turn it on.

The little led at the top of the radio flashes 1 time. and "SELF TEST" flashes on the screen 1 time then nothing.

Lets start by him posting the model #. That way we will know if it is 800 MHz or not and the possibility of it being inhibited.

I just took a count of my 800 radios and none are MIA so it's not one of mine..lol

Your master site

I hope that you want to power it up so you can figure out whose it is so you can return it.....right? It does sound like it's possibly been inhibited as KS4VT suggests. If it has then the radio is useless to you and anyone but the owner and Motorola (as they can restore it). I would suggest turning it in to your local P.D. and letting them figure it out.

Non-800, non-trunked radios can also be inhibited (by MDC command).

Yep, self-test then nothing means inhibited.

The radio is in a dormant state with all buttons and TX/RX audio disabled. If on, it sits on the same channel/talkgroup/whatever until it is uninhibited.

Motorola won't fix it for you either. It seems apparent that the radio was reported missing and ID placed on the inhibit list as a precaution.

Well then I guess I spent $40 on a charger to find out its not a real fun walkie talkie lol. Ok so your best guess would be PD?

Anyone need a spare charger?

Yep that would be correct and being it is a radio worth more than $2,000 there must be some kind of property sticker on it. If there isn't PM the serial number to me if you want and I have contacts who can run it to find the original purchasing department/agency and you can return it.

I never said it couldn't. But being 800 there is a much better chance as there aren't too many agencies, at least around here, that even know what MDC even is.
