Assuming you hear a clear CC noise, try the following two steps.
1. Press PGM TRUNK and verify line 3 either has ED or MOT depending on the trunking system you are scanning. If not, press MODE until the it does.
2. Press MANUAL and using the UP/DOWN buttons, step through each of the trunking freqs only and verify that the system type (ED or MO) is displayed in the upper right corner for each. If not, press MODE for each which does not.

If you cannot hear a clear CC noise, then trunk scanning may be intermittent even though you can hear transmissions when selecting freqs manually.

I don't see how you can even get it to trunk in manual..

If I'm scanning a trunking system and hit manual, it usually stops on one of the CCs. (on a MOT system)

In addition to what he said, what type of system are u trying to scan?
On an EDACS system you NEED to have the channels programmed in correct order for it to properly scan that system.

Which is why I can't stand EDACS

You may want to review this shortcut link to double check your programming. It is much easier than wading through the manual.

If you have followed the advice given by fmon above and still have the problem and if you have a programming cable for the radio, use the free Win95 software (http://www.starrsoft.com) and dump the programming to a ".p95" file, zip it up and post here. If you don't have software for zipping, just add a ".txt" extension to the file and post it. Someone can take a look and see what is up.

Clear the entire bank. Freqs, ID, Modes, everrything. Start over from scratch. Go slow. Check mode MOT on every frequency entry.

Double check your frequency list for a control channel. If you are not sure you have one, manually scroll through all frequencies and see if you can hear it. It sounds as if you are missing the control channel. If you scan trunked frequencies in FM mode, it won't take long to locate the control channel.

Be sure you have entered ID's and text's in the correct manner.

It would help if you told us what "easy way" you were talking about. Only clear the entire thing as a last resort.

Okay, I see what the problem is. Obviously someone should try using the instructions as written before publishing them on the Wiki (since they are wrong.) I am pretty sure that it was just a slip of the eye, since the first part is correct. Frank you want to fix that. :D

Once on the bank in question pres <PGM> then press <TRUNK> and verify the bank is set to Motorola, if it says "NOT TRUNKED" then press the <MODE> button until you get to Motorola. If in fact this is the case, then you probably have solved your problem, if not, press <PGM> again and scroll through the frequencies making sure they all are MO frequencies.
