Turning the volume control up or down doesn't do anything?

Does the volume indicator show up on the display (V=x) when you turn the volume knob?

Try a factory reset, if that doesn't fix it, sounds like a trip to Uniden repair.

Does the squelch level show up on the display (S=x) when you rotate the squelch knob?

My 996XT does not begin showing a V= value or changing the speaker volume until I have rotated the knob at least a quarter-turn.
