Ahem, learn what?
Tony's and Fountains in New Haven rarely use their in-house comm systems and believe me, it is nothing worth listening to. In any event, you can look up the info on any company you are seeking to "learn" from with a little bit of research and patience on the on the FCC website.

To add to PD47JD’s post, some tow companies subscribe to commercial radio services that offer two-way radio comms and may not be listed as one of the company’s the service lists. Or, they use cell phones.

Nelcon, Nelson Ambulance, Access Ambulance, Ct Handivan all owned by the same person. I know the ambulances and handivan operate on the Marcus statewide system. I could only assume that the tow side would also use it also.

The only license listed for Nelcon Towing is in Montana. The Nelson Ambulance UHF license expired in 2015. The Connecticut Handivan UHF license expired in 2012. The 2 UHF Access Ambulance licenses expired in 2003 and 2015.

Tvenger’s post pretty much says it all. If all those licenses have expired, it’s a good bet that owner allowed them to expire and moved to one of the Marcus systems. I haven’t talked to Bruce Marcus who is also a ham, in some time (met at the Log Cabin Restaurant in Glastonbury for coffee years ago) but that’s a service his business provides. A few years back I thought I’d plug in Farmington Motor Sports, a repair and towing business in Farmington so I could listen to them when the PD called them for wrecker service in town. I talked to the owner who I’ve known since grade school and came away with the understanding it wasn’t worth the bother. I didn’t press the issue and just assumed they are using cell phones-to this day I have no idea how they dispatch… maybe my cell phone assumption slowed my curiosity but I stopped looking for any service they may have subscribed to. Because even if they do subscribe to a service, there wasn’t much to hear anyway! I’d probably plug them in if someone volunteered any info on a scannable system they subscribe to but I’m not going to bother with the research myself.

The Marcus DMR Tier III has Nelcon and a number of others. Mirabelli, Reno's, and perhaps 8 or 9 others. I rarely monitor them so they may have moved elsewhere but they were there.

Nope, they're still on Marcus HDN. See them talking all the time and joking about cars broke down on the highway as they pass by.
