Hello all hope all is well!!!!!!!! I am helping a very good friend with his Pro-97 scanner. I have a Pro-95. Can I use the win 95 program to set up his just lke mine? i have the "black" wire for setting mine up.

Also I am really liken the looks of his 97. Are there added bennifits to his that I am just not seeing. He gave me the scanner to program for him but no instruction book. (Only your buddies will do you like that...... hahahahaha) I am hopping that i can just set him up with my laptop just like mine.

THANKS for your help

Well no, you can not program a -97 with Win95.

And while the -97 being a good scanner with LTR and lots of other goodies, more than enough owners have reported the volume and squelch knobs breaking off, since the are mounted on top of one another. It makes them prone to breakage.

Hope This Helps,

Thank you

Thank you for the info. I have the 97 program and have set Fire and Medic for our area. man they make these VERY user friendly. Thank you very much for the link. As I play with this one I have noticed the vol/sq feature. I would have to agree looks fradgle.

also the programming of the 97 should be VERY similar to the Pro 95 if not the same.

A friend of mine might get the 97, I glanced at the owners manual online.
I told him I would be able to 'talk him 'through the programming.

PCI wire?

Ok I have set up his entire data base. When I went to use my "black" RS wire, my pc told me that i had the wrong serial port. You think this would be a problem with my wire or is their a diffrent one I should be useing?

The correct cable from Radio Shack is catalog number 20-289. It's actually gray in color, not black. The black cable is probably the wrong one if it came from Radio Shack. There are also other places to get a cable that works, like eBay, or here: http://www.blackbagsoftware.com/
