I'm helping my high school park cars for a local event in town. they use the schools radios. Would it be ok if i programed my radio to talk on their frequency?

The way I see it...

If it's conventional use and they give permission to do so, and even then your radio might not be covered under their license. Would anyone ever know about the license issue? Likely not.....

Not to get on an FCC tangent, your radio would also have to be type-accepted for the service (as in no ham gear on a part 90 frequency, etc).

You could just ask if they have a radio they would let you use, they might not actually need you to have/use a radio. There is no reason I'd see an issue with programing your radio to RX only if they say no to all of it, you could hear them if they happen to say something that might be important to you.

sorry for the edits...

It would be really helpful to know what kind of radios (make and model) the school uses and what frequencies they use. Otherwise, we're just guessing.

OK? Your school is the people to ask not here. More than likley they will say no. Even if they do say yes,
you can use ham gear and must use a type accepted radio.

if they ALLOW you to and gave you PERMISSION! then go for it, the FCC aint going to chase a guy down because he was using a radio for a parking event! they work off of complaints on stuff like that, ands its a waste of their time and money, and if you do get everything set, then just transmit the callsign
OR just give everyone FRS radios!

Has your high school asked for your help with communications? That might make a considerable difference in whether or not they would allow you to use your own radio.

Non-enforcement is not an excuse for breaking the rules and regulations.

yeh, so it matters if the radio has a sticker on the back that says its good by the FCC?
I know that we have some people here with the "itch butt finger" shoved up there LOL , but thats why I suggested to use the FRS radios :)

Why do you always talk it to death and ignore the short and simple answer? All things considered it is NO, you lack authorization which under federal law cannot be given.

ok

you could do that or you could use there radios. you also could use those GMRS/FRS radios or a good set of MURS radios would be great. but i do not see why you could not use it for a short event like that. it wont hurt no one. just get there ok on it and make shure you do everything right. and maby if you do a good job of helping them with there communications then they might ask you for help with communications at a nother event one day.
