It seems the Sherrif's department has switched from the old analog system to the newer Phase 2 digital. And I'm getting all kinds of advice on what scanner to get. But no one is actually using those scanners to receive the new radio frequencies.

Looking for recommendations, please.

I would get a BCD325P2 if your looking for a portable. If your looking for a mobile/base I'd get a BCD996P2. I've had both and they worked just as good as the SDS series on starcom and everything else.

Do you know which site they use?

Nope. My guess would be 2.40 New Boston Twp (Joy), 2.21 Monmouth Twp, or 2.10 Appanoose Twp (Niota).

Ok...just wanted to confirm is wasn't a simulcast site, which they both would be hit or miss. Another thing to consider is if you plan on going anywhere that might be using a simulcast site, the SDS100 or SDS200 would be recommended.

Nearest simulcast looks to Peoria County 2.49. No simulcast anywhere near Henderson Co on the Iowa SW also.

When I say "going anywhere that might be using a simulcast site", I'm referring to an out of state vacation, or heading north to the city, or for that matter the Peoria area. I never assume someone looking for a handheld scanner is going to be sitting at one location. This is a circumstance when an SDS100 is the best choice before the "help, my 325P2 isn't working! I see bars, but it's choppy" type of posts. Then the "this is simulcast distortion, should get a SDS100" responses...LOL! It will work well in those single site areas though, so the OP is aware of all the options.

How do I find out what they changed to? This is a very small populated county. And I have found no one that is getting the new channels. I'm wondering where they got the funds. They only have 6 deputies.

Check the Illinois Database/Starcom 21 system and the information you seek is there.

The information is not that reliable. So no, I'm not sure what they went to. The local FaceBook groups in Burlington Iowa told me they are Phase II. But no one has a radio that is programmed for them.
