When did Hendricks County Fire Dispatch go to Automated voice dispatch vs live dispatching? I heard a Fire Dispatch call and it was a automated voice.Has anyone heard this in Hendricks County?

I noticed this a couple days ago too - it's the same automated voice that Marion County is using - they call her "Dorothy." I did notice yesterday (Wed) that both Marion Cty and Hendricks Cty were dispatching without Dorothy. Not sure what's going on.

It depends on the call type as to whether the automated system is used. I also noticed calls that come in from radio units and don't go through a call taker are not automated. And at times it seems the automated system is down.

Keep in mind that Marion and Hendricks Counties use the same CAD software and a gateway has been set up between the two systems so the two counties can easily share information between the two CADs. That's why mutual aid dispatching is pretty seamless between the two counties. Hendricks dispatchers can assign a Decatur, Wayne, or Pike unit to a run just like assigning a Plainfield, Avon, or Brownsburg unit, and vice versa, because the dispatchers can see the status of the other county's units. In many cases, the cross-county units are already pre-assigned on the "run card" in the CAD.

The voice is not called* dorothy* The voice is called "Rita" named after Capt. Rita who is the PIO Officer for IFD.She is the one who talks to all the Newsmedia on camera when IFD puts out a major building fire or a major incident.

The voice is called many different things by different crews, she has no official name. The system is made by Locution and has been testing off and on for several weeks. It should go fully online anytime. I would also fully expect even after going online it will be taken down pretty often over the next several months to tweak things as bugs are found.

Debbie is Not correct. The voice is called Rita.I got this infomation from a longtime Pike Firefighter and he told me that when the voice was started to replace "Live Dispatching" His IFD contacts told him that they(Firefighters) were calling it Rita.Named after Capt Rita who is the PIO with IFD.

They may call her Rita on the street in some places, but in the actual dispatch center she's referred to as Debbie. The point is that she's called different things different places. There's no real right or wrong thing to call it. No nickname's official.
