Okay...

So for the longest time now, I've had one thorn in my side with scanning the Henrico Fire TG's. TG 17472 (D1) seems to be quirky. Transmissions which are put out immediately after a FRAP activation (the tones and voice dispatch) do not come across the TG. However, all the unit mark-enroutes come across loud and clear. When the VHF highband xpatch is open, there is no traffic on 17472, only on the VFH high band repeater.

Anyone experienced this? It's a pain in the ass trying to keep track of stuff when you have to wait and hear it on the tac!

Evan, I went back and re-read the thread from August. I thought there was a resolution to your problem. I don't have the ability to monitor the scanner and a portable radio at the same time, but anyway, here's how my set up works. When I hear an alert tone for either fire or ems, I always hear it and the voice dispatch on C/W EMS (18352). I never hear any other traffic on this talk group.

After the voice dispatch,I hear units mark enroute and dispatch ack. on F/R D1. What I don't understand is on the portables and mobile radios, you hear everything, (alert tones, voice dispatch, et al) on F/R/D1. I don't think you hear anything on C/W EMS. (I may be wrong, though).

As for the VHF link, I rarely listen to both in the same time. When I do, all of the traffic carried on 18352 comes across the VHF. Very rarely I'll hear the voice traffic from 17472.

If you have not already, invest in software that will allow you to read the scanner in a table format so it will be easier to spot a difference in the setup of the individual talkgroup.

I have yet to hear anything on T/G 512, FRAP activation. Have you heard anything? The only other thing I can think of, and this is a stretch, is if you're carrying a county radio, the scanner's receiver is being desensitized by the portable when its being polled or affiliating with the system. Like I said, a stretch.

Hope this helps,

Doug

No, probably not. I'm a volunteer with Fire. Any luck with F/R D 1?
