henrico pd tac question

does anyone know of a talkgroup ID that would be considered something like an "all car" talk group. from having a few officers hang out around my rescue squad building, i know they have alert tones for "hot" calls. in the two months i have been monitering, i have never heard an alert tone go out on any police tac. any ideas?

ALL HENRICO........

tac channels are encrypted so you're wasting your time but the talk groups are:
16704 Tac 1 East
16720 Tac 2 West
16736 Tac 3 South
16752 Tac 4 North

also you will notice that there is not much talk on the dispatch channels...they use the MBT's (computers in the cars) mostly unless it is a code 3 call or something that is urgent that requires faster communication between officers and dispatch (like persuits etc...)....which is kinda good because those are the ones I like to listen to....it narrows down the other trash calls (loud neighbors etc...)

When an "all car broadcast" needs to be transmitted, the dispatcher selects the affected talk group(s) and gives out the info.

ALL calls unless sensitive in nature are given vocaly as well as being sent to the MDC.

Code3 calls can be preceded by 2 alert tones.

In Henrico the MDC stands for Mobile Data Computer.

Again, they are required to vocally dispatch calls. As for all car broadcasts, they are given over the air and as well as being sent on the MDC.

Just as an added note on dispatching. The law requires that the call be sent vocally. This is so it is recording if it should ever need to be brought into court. Whether if you are or are not using MDC's

In Missouri I once heard them referred to as "MCS" meaning "Mobile Computer System." Many departments here in Michigan have been upgrading from MDTs to MDCs. The later of the two give users far more options for sending and receiving information and report writing.

Just confirmed with officer Shumate with HPD tonight. All calls do not have to be dispatched vocally over the airwaves in the state of Virginia. Officer Shumate, as you local people know is usually the guy you see when there is a major crime scene in Henrico co. He is the one you usually see talking on tv to the media. And as I mentioned before and have confirmed that the only calls you will hear on HPD dispatch channels are code 3 calls and some but not all vehicle stops made by officers and other misc. traffic. Your low priority calls like loud noise or whatever will more than likely not be heard on the radio instead it will be transmitted electronically to the computers in the cars.

Unless the mobile terminals have been upgraded in recent years, in Virginia Beach they are KDT's. (for Kapro Data Teminal, I believe).

DJS, not to start a pissing contest on here, but I'm curious to find out what your affiliation with Henrico County is? You sure to seem to "know" a lot about the system. Both VFN137 and I use the regional radio system on a daily basis (in different capacities at times), and are required keep up-to-date on the rules & regs of the departments.

I happen to know VFN137 on a personal basis, and would not question any of the information he provides here on RR ... I know he has the credentials to back his information up.

in reference to VFN137, since I know the guy personally and know his background and what he does for a living...I'd have to take his side over your's, Joe. without saying what he does because i'm not sure if he wants it in the air...

ok, If you know this person, why have you asked the questions of getting talk group info if he has all the answers? Seems like he would be the first person I would ask if you know him that well. I have also confirmed my information with 2 other 911 dispatchers about HPD transmitting every call. And they don't. So I would have to say once again, believe what you want. Tell me when was the last time anyone heard a loud music call or a low priority call dispatched over the airwaves of HPD east or west. I haven't in a long time. I guess they just don't get those calls anymore. Also 137 just because you use a fire or rescue radio doesn't mean you know what the pd is doing at all times.
