I Programed all them channels into my bcd 996 p2 uniden scanner. Get no signal on bars and always displays NFM Please let me know why this is

I had a similar problem with both my HomePatrol II, and my BCD325P2.

There are some dead spots in town that prevent reception of the signal from the tower located on SR 281 over by Hamler, OH.

With my BCD325P2 I had to move it around my table until I found a location where the signal strength was the best and I started receiving transmissions for both County and City units.

With my HomePatrol II, I actually had to take the scanner mobile in my vehicle, drive out to the tower location and wait for a transmission to make sure it was actually programmed correctly and working properly - which it did. I then drove back towards town and watched the signal strength reduce from a 5 out of 5 to eventually a 0 out of 5 in some parts of town.

I've been advised to get a Remtronix antenna, which has been ordered and being shipped as of this date, and this should improve my reception so my HP-2 should work.

My suggestion to you is to drive out to the tower to make sure your scanner is properly programmed and working, then drive back home monitoring your signal strength to see if your area is an issue effecting your reception. Then take your scanner around the inside of your home and locate the areas with the best signal strength and set your scanner in the best location that works for you.

I will let you know if the Remtronix antenna resolves my issue, and if so, then you can decide if that is the direction you may want to take.

The Northwest Ohio Regional Public Safety System is screwy compared to other systems I have dealt with. I'm really not impressed with it. I'm not sure if it is the tower, or the way the system is set up, or the frequency.

I have been using scanners in this county since the 1970's and I NEVER had to worry about the location of the scanner due to signal strength. Scanning was never this ' touchy' or 'finicky'. Depending on the year type of scanner you had - you either placed a crystal into the scanner, or programmed the frequency into the scanner, and it worked loud and clear - anywhere in the house, anywhere in town, anywhere in the county you wanted to use it at.

IMHO they took a step backwards in the name of progress.

Thanks Greg for coresponding on Henry County issues. Now I know that I am not the olny one that cant hear whats going on here.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the system. Napoleon is on the edge of the coverage area for two different sites, which is likely the cause of your issues with a scanner. Remember, the system is designed to work with radios that are far more sensitive than the scanners you are using.

The Holgate tower operates the MARCS-IP and works fine. I hear OSP District 1 great on my HP-II.

The Hamler tower operates the Northwest Ohio Regional Public Safety System which all Henry County and Napoleon City operates off of. I can't get squat off that on my HP-II. So it's got to be the system or the tower.

As far as " radios that are far more sensitive than the scanners ", I used to be a LEO in this area when we operated off the 155.625 repeater system. I could be on a portable and be heard all over the county. I have heard traffic on the Northwest Ohio Regional Public Safety System where a unit is on portable and can hardly be heard and is asked to repeat the traffic.

Give more information on units having difficulty on their portables. I use the system everyday and have listened to the Henry County talkgroups on my APX 6000 and have not heard any garbled transmissions.

There have been times when a unit was on a portable, attempted to speak to a dispatcher, and the dispatcher asked him to repeat his traffic because she could not copy him.

You are right on them asking to repeat them selves. Does anyone know for sure if they are done working on Henry county system and the Napoleon Police radio systems?

Yep, I was just listening to Henry Co SO and the dispatcher just asked the deputy in his car to repeat because he was " unreadable ", her word, not mine. I hope they're still working on them, but I'm not sure.

There are a lot of dead zones in Napoleon with no signal. Get strong signal on outside of city. Dont know why it can go from 5 bars to 0 bars in 3 feet of movement??

I've experienced the same. I'm hoping when I get the Remtronix antenna it will resolve my lack of signal issue with my HP-2. If it does, I'll probably order a second one for my BCD325P2 as well.

It should be here in a couple of days, I'll let you know the results after I get it.

I am going to give Jerrys CB radios a call this week and see what he has to say. He has been in the radio business 40 years.I had the radio in the car today and the farther away from Napoleon I got the stronger the signal.
