This is what you need - Amazon.com: Garmin 18x PC GPS Navigator Unit: GPS & Navigation

Just like in the picture.

BE very careful as they have a bar unit with pigtail wiring and one with a USB connector, these will not work.

If you shop it on ebay, you should be able to find one for around $35-$40 at tops?

Here is a current ebay listing, $25 or offer with $10 shipping - Garmin 19N001805 GPS 18x PC GPS Sensor | eBay

A bit better than the $80+ for the Uniden unit.

I have both and the GPS18x does work with the scanners, you will need to have an interface cable for the scanner, not 100% if the 436HP has the same interface as the 396xt and HP1?

I ordered 3 of these units you suggested. Got them used for 75.00 delivered. Ty

As for a GPS, suggest you search around ebay for a Garmin GPS18, make SURE you find a Serial unit as there are a lot of Garmin GPS18 USB units around.

You should be able to get one for under $40 if you shop around.

Slightly cleaner than the Uniden setup.

As for the BNC T and using 2 antenna, that works but sometimes will also kill certain frequency bands with null

Since you have a hand held scanner, if using it at home, inside, I would suggest a magnet mount antenna that you can place somewhere near a window and then just hook the cable up to the scanner. This will not stress the SMA connector on the radio like the larger antenna or 2 antennas on a BNC T adapter.

Bey my friend just got the gps pucks in you recommended. I plugged it in using the 436 adapter cable. Went to set my location, set up gps, set the port to 4800bps. I then turned off all my favorites, turned on full database and range to 5 miles. The word gps is lit up in display. Is this all i need to do? Does it still work if I turn off full database and turn on favorites?

Oh and does squelch still come into play? Or should I just use the range setting to determine what comes across?
