Does anyone know if Hershey Park can be picked up? I've done all that I know to do but hear nothing. I'd like to put this to rest if possible. Thanks. Greg

What is "everything" and how close are you to the park? According to the database it shows a CAP+ DMR system, are you using a DMR scanner or SDR, are you using the correct color codes?

I am about 30 miles from the park. I have a SDS 100 and 200, both with DMR. Under Hershey Entertainment and Resorts I have two sites: Site 1 is Hotel Hershey; Site 2 is Hershey Lodge. Under the Departments I show ALL of them listed in Sentinel. I used Sentinel to program Hersey into the scanner.

Site 1 is using color code 3; Site 2 is Color code 4.

Under the filter option I was using GLOBAL. I just now switched to AUTO to see if that does anything.

Other than all this I don't know why I do not receive them? Thank you. Greg

Thank you u2Brent. Is this info available in Sentinel? Using Sentinel is the only way I know how to program my scanners. Thank you. Greg

Thank you both of you. I just erased it from my scanner and was going to reinstall. It's too bad I'm that close and cannot pick them up. I've been fighting this battle for a long time. Next time I go up that way I will load it into my SDS 100 and give her a try. I really appreciate your help. Greg

45 to 50 watts ERP on UHF (if they are indeed utilizing full power) may be attainable from 30 miles out with an external antenna tuned for UHF mounted high & clear of obstruction & sources of RFI. Of course elevation and topography work in one's favor as well, but not all RF environments are created equal. You may encounter closer stations transmitting on or close to your target frequencies which likely will inhibit your efforts & an SDS100 (can't speak for the 200) isn't the best scanner for DX since it overloads easily. Never hurts to try though with the right equipment. But from ground level with stock rubber duckie or telescopics? Uh-uh, won't happen from 30 miles away. It's been a few years since I've been out that way, didn't start getting a pick up on the park's system with my car antenna at the time until about 5 miles or so line of site from the park

30 miles isn’t close my friend in radio terms! Most public safety radio towers are built tall or put on mountains and are only good for 10-15 miles around the tower, when you put a whole bunch of them in county spaced that far apart it covers a larger area. Business systems are mostly made to cover the area around the business and that’s it.

Thank you Whiskey3JMC. I have a telescopic, and never had problems with anyone except Hershey. I've considered an external antenna, but I don't think now. I appreciate your input. Greg

Thanks Nathan. I was not aware of the limitations. I appreciate your help. Greg

How far from the park were you?

I spent the nights at 100 Hotel Rd, Hershey, PA 17033 The hotel is just under 1 mile line of sight.

From the most Southern part of York, by York Hospital, to the transmitter at Hershey, your about 24 miles line of sight.

The telescopic will not pull them in. If I was trying, I would be using a diy Moxon or Yagi mounted high up and tuned for 460'ish.

I was moving and programmed all the different systems into the 996p2 pretty much from the Wendy's and Pizza-Hut to the park I would pick up clear, so maybe 2 miles, which system was I listening to not 100% sure, Def parking and some operations, the DMR "Security was quiet all day.
I had the hotels as well as the Food side in the scanner, the chatter was neat to hear, sadly I was not there long enough to make sense of all of it,
Would not be suprised if they are Encrypted though on the security side of things.

You basically have my location pinpointed. I appreciate the work you did. I just don't think I'll pick Hershey up from here. Oh well; life goes on. Thanks. Greg.

Thanks for the info. I don't think it's anything that important enough for me to drive up and listen to. I would imagine there are encrypted channels as well. I do appreciate your input. Greg

If you had a yagi or moxon and conditions were right, there is a chance you could pick up something. I'm on Long Island and locked onto Capitol Police control channel in Washington DC 2 weeks ago.
