Anyone using the new ICOM PCR-1500 for HF? If so, I'd be interested in hearing your comments.

Thanks,
Bill

I've been using my R-1500 for a few weeks now. Compared to my WinRadio G303E, it isn't quite as sensitive, but very close (it is alot better than I expected). I primarily use it for listening to utility and HF aviation. I have the UT-106 DSP module, and with it, it does a better job with HF digital modes than the G303.

It's scanning ability is great. I tend to use my G303 for finding stations, and the R-1500 for scanning/listening to them. I have to say, I've been quite impressed with the R-1500. It performs much better than I expected given it's frequency range. I haven't done any real comparisons in UHF/VHF, but it is at least on par with my BC898T and probably better.

I've yet to use it above 900MHz, since I don't have a suitable antenna, but hopefully I'll find the time to build an L/S band antenna this summer.

Well, that went a bit outside the scope of your question, so I'll leave it at that. If you have any more questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Regards,
Carl

Thanks for the info Carl!

I used to have a WiNRADiO WR-1500E (prior to the 1550). It was equivalent of the ICOM PCR-1000 at the time. I was very disappointed with the WiNRAiO. It appeared to be made well, and I liked the software, but performance was not anywhere near as good as the ICOM. I think WiNRADiO made some improvements when they introduced the WR-1550E.

I have read very favorable reviews on the WiNRADiO G303 that you have. I think because it's designed strictly for the HF band, rather than wide-band has a lot to do with it's performance being better.

The new ICOM PCR-1500 is doing a fantastic job! I haven't even connected a decent antenna yet. I'm glad they went to a USB interface, and got away from the RS232 serial interface. Being able to record the audio over that same USB cable is super! Speaking of audio, the quality seems to have been improved substantially. Even the recorded audio sounds great. With such wide-band coverage, I see myself putting up several different antennas this summer. I can think of any one antenna that could adequately serve the needs of the PCR-1500 (10 kHz~3300MHz).
