I have owned this 996p2 for a year or so now. I am on the edge of a desired reception area. A narrow slice of band width became un recievable when the lamp on the table where the scanner is had a led bulb in it. Then something changed and I could not hear a usually active frequency, so being the resourceful yankee I am, took the foil off the empty cookie platter and made a flag out of it on top of my back of set base loaded antenna. (I dream of a roof peak antenna), The foil flag made a difference. That same bandwidth dissapeared again same as with the LED bulb. Took off the foil flag and layed it down on the table. Not only did the disapeared badwidth/frequency return, it was much more active and much clearer! Reception is effected by non contact collector/reflector?

Any thoughts from you in the know gurus?

Also, is P25 threshold settings a radio wide thing or system wide...some of my P25 is descrambling scambled! That was even hard to type.

Best Regards,

Do you have the latest firmware. Due to a hardware update, it was found that newer BCD996P2's could not decode digital signals above 171.2 MHz in the VHF high band. A firmware update corrected that problem.

It's a radio wide thing when you re-set the P25 thresholds also you need the latest firmware to keep the settings unless you hold the "hold" button down when you turn it on each time

No, your ok with 1.10.02 it will remain at what you set it each time turned on with that firmware....I have a 996p2 that still has firmware 1.06.00 and that's the procedure to reset the thresholds, other than that it sounds the same and decodes digital the same as 1.10.02 as my newer 996.P2

Firmware version 1.08.01 fixed the P25 Threshold problem.
