Hi everyone Im Brian, Im new to this hobby and I am interested in picking up a scanner to maybe make my night a lil more interesting.(I work a graveyard shift)

So im looking for opinions on what scanner to pick up. The scanner will be used in Arlington Heights IL and Wood Dale IL, scanner must be handheld and $300-600 range.

Im really only looking to scan police and fire frequencys unless someone here knows of something a lil more exciting. Now if you you live in arlington heights let me know if I should even bother picking up a scanner because it will used more here than at my home in Wood Dale. Actually it will prolly be used in arlington about 90% of the time.

I would suggest the BCD396T from Uniden. Since Arlington Hts. uses digital modulation (thru it's Northwest Central Dispatch System) that precludes any non-digital scanner.

Check out http://www.carmachicago.com for Profiles produced for NWCD and other Chicago area locales, best information on the planet for these areas.

Thanks! While looking around and some further research I figured that would prolly be the one to go with.
