2 reasons come to mind offhand:

1. Antennas are a good way to advertise to would-be thieves what goodies you have inside your house or car. So hiding them is a good way to "blend in" and no one knows what you've got.

2. Base antennas are often the subject of harassment from your home owners association - many HOA cc&r's prohibit them. But, if you put the antenna in your attic, or use a Ventenna or similar disguised antenna, your HOA will be none the wiser (if it were me though I'd put up a big fat beam on a 50 foot mast with one of those cheesy pink lawn flamingoes on top of it, just to give the GolfCart Cops on the HOA something to get excited about. I hate those idiots).

There's other reasons too, but those are the main ones.

I believe there was a Monty Pyton skit that came close to this...

Anyway, many vertical antennas can be disguised as flagpoles..
and who could argue with that.

I mean come on HOA, just because I erected a 100 ft tower with four yagis at different hieghts and a pretty flashing beacon on top, and my guy wires run right through your yard, I have an razor wire topped fence around it, and have in big lettering on the signs, WARNING!.......

Is that any reason at all to be so mean??? Oh your not mad about that? Oh its the TV arial your mad about.. well who needs TV anyway.....
