In the past I have used Powerex 2700's. They start out around 2700mah, but capacity diminishes quickly after about 6 months of use. I had 4 sets of 3 batteries (12 total) that I rotated through a BCD396XT. After about 1 year of heavy use they were about 2000mah.

I replaced them with Eneloop Pros when I got my BCD436HP about 16 months ago after reading all the good reviews. I have two sets of 3 (6 total) that I rotate though. They started out at around 2450mah and are still around 2450mah after 16 months of heavy daily use.

I used same MAHA charger with all my batteries. I am definitely happy with my Eneloop Pros!

I got the Eneloop 1900's that come with 6 AA and 4AAA with charger for $24.95

So you find that the Eneloop Pros 2450 mah last the longest for number of charges?

Yes, my Eneloop Pros are proving to have a long useful life. I don't have direct experience with the Eneloop 1900's that you went with, but I have read similar stories about those.

I am interested in the EBL 2800mah batteries that teufler recommended. These are about half the price of Eneloop Pros.

Eneloops Rule

I've been using the eneloop batteries which last longer than the stock batteries. I ordered them from Amazon and they're highly rated.

I don't care what others may think, but I love my Eneloops. This is my battery of choice. When I first bought my digital radio, I foolishly went to Batteries Plus and bought some. After charging these up, they were dead within 48 hours or so, short shelf life. This is why I prefer Eneloops. They last for a long time on the shelf.

I can second that, I have 6 sets of 4 for my 800, at first they last a full day, then they gradually lose their charge. The 3 in the 436, I ha e change those twice a day now.

Maha 2700 are very good. I've been using them in my 436, and easily get 10 hours a day.

What is the highest rating on the Eneloops that you can purchase? Where can you purchase these Eneloops?

The highest rated Eneloop batteries are the Eneloop Pro batteries which are rated at 2550mAh. These are the only brand I buy after testing Energizers, Duracell's, Maha, Rayovac's over 6 years.

From best to worst from my experience and long time testing;
Eneloop
Rayovac
Duracell
Energizer
Maha.

I purchased my eneloop pro batteries at Dayton Hamvention, but I see them on Amazon as well.

I have a mix of Powerex, Imedion and based on opinions here some Eneloops I'm rotating through. Min stated capacity is I believe 2300 with some 2700s in the mix from more recent purchases. I also use the Maha 801 charger - got it going now. I have probably 32 batteries I'm rotating through now and still have a few new packs of Eneloops I haven't cracked into yet. I've tossed a couple of the oldest in the mix recently when they stopped taking a charge. Overall very satisfied with what I've got.

If you read my post above, I use the Maha MH-C801D charger / conditioner. You will notice that a LOT of people on this site will choose NOT to charge batteries internally. Most people will use external chargers.A lot of people, like myself, even condition their batteries. It's just not a good practice to heat up your $400+ scanner. I recommend staying away from 15 minute chargers. They tend to cook your batteries and over time tend to shorten their life.

Manny

Not only that but it takes 14 hours to charge those rechargeables that come with 436 (2300). I use the Eneloop charger and it maybe charged up in alot less time than 14 hours.

I do notice that when Eneloops are fully charged when the charger shuts down. By the time I need them I notice that I can charge them again for a short amount of time shorter than when battery warning system originally went off in 436.
Question?: Is it better to charge them up again to the MAX then put them in scanner or just use them after the first charge?.
I am thinking if you charge them again for maximum full charge that is 2 charges against you meaning doing it this way for maximum charged time will shorten those batteries life faster vs. leaving fully charged batteries on the shelf as it loses its charge from time battery is not charging in charger.

So it is battery life-span of time battery charges vs. how long battery will last in scanner in hours? You can only have one of these?
Seems to be that the Eneloops Professional are the best overall in both of these areas?
