It's kind of apples to oranges. If you have some mission critical need that would require an extra fifteen minutes or so of operating time, then top the batteries off. Or just carry a spare set, if you are standing a post it would be easy to slip 3 batteries into any kind of duty bag (or pouch).

Personally, I think it's a waste of time trying to squeeze a few extra minutes out of batteries when easily obtained mobile charging solutions are available, and not expensive.

Then there is the discharge point. I'm not familiar with the AA rechargeables, but use the 4.2V 18650 Lithiums in several devices.

The low battery shutoff for most devices is about 3.3V. I never let the batteries get below 3.6V if at all possible, as I truly believe that this prolongs the life of the battery. I have 8 batteries that I rotate, and they do not show any sign of deterioration.

I'd like to see a graph or report on the longevity versus minimum voltage before charge.

I have been using the batteries that came with the radio, as well as Energizer rechargeable backups. No problem. I did the initial break in on my MAHA C9000 charger and I think that made a big difference.

I bought EBL batteries through Amazon. 2800 mah nmh and they seem to hold up every good. The other day I saw a 2900 mah battery. I had some Enercell 2500 mah batteries. They are ok, but the EBL AA batteries hold up longer.
