I am looking for KS. Highway Patrol freq's. My son and I will be driving his vehicle from Southern CA. to Iowa before his Marine Corp deployment, and being a former state trooper, now a city cop; I would like to scan the highway patrol freq's if possible.

The freqs you need should be listed here-

Highway Patrol Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Don't bother with the old VHF channels they have listed. KHP stopped using / installing VHF radios around 2000.

You should be on the 800 conventional towers until you reach milepost 300 or so of Interstate 70. From there east, the new 800 MHz P-25 trunking system is up.

Have a safe trip!

In the Kansas City metro area KHP usually use the Wyndotte Co. talkgroup or the Johnson County talkgroups. There is increasing traffic on the KSICS. It seems as if all the traffic on the KSICS for the metro troop is simulicasted through either WYCO or JOCO systems. Depending on your radio it would be easier to program them all. Or have a print out of tags and enter control channels if you have one of the new unidens.
