hmm is this good for rails?

i can get this scanner, Uniden 780 XLT for about 100$ used. and i was wondering if it is a good one to get rail freqs with?again im all new to scanning, but ill be gettin a bcd396t later or soon hopefully anyways, i was wondeirng if i can hook this up to my car? and if so, how long can i leave it on until it kills my battery while im sitting trackside? thanks... also good antenna for these? anything that can be homemade?

That will work for RR frequencies and a bunch of other stuff. If you are just listening track-side something like this may fit your needs. As far as running your battery down, you should be able to listen for more than just a couple of hours - a lot depends on your battery.
