Holly Springs PD's FCC Call Signs
Call Sign KNAO474 is Holly Springs PD's oldest call sign and is for the following frequencies and channel names:
154.7400 MHz is Cherokee County Mobile Radio District (MRD) Channel. This was Holly Springs PD's primary dispatch channel many years ago before they were licensed for 151.2500 MHz in the simplex mode;
154.9050 MHz is Statewide Car-to-Car;
155.3700 MHz is the Innercity Base-to-Base Channel. I don't think Holly Springs PD has used this since their dispatch moved in with Cherokee County 9-1-1 several years ago, but they still maintain this frequency on their license.
Call Sign WPHX992 was originally granted to HSPD as a simplex channel for primary dispatch operations when HSPD applied for the frequency (151.2500 MHz) many years ago indicating the MRD Channel had become too congested due to use by Ball Ground PD, Canton PD and Cherokee County SO. Since that time Ball Ground PD and Canton PD have secured licenses for their own dispatch channels. In early 2006, Chief Ken Ball contacted me advising he would like for HSPD to get a repeater to improve coverage and asked me if I would find him a frequency that could be used as a repeater input and apply for the license for his department, so I did and the FCC allowed the input frequency to be added. They had the repeater installed and this made their radio system much better allowing portable radio coverage from north to south and east to west, but they still had some coverage issues due to the city expanding. Last I heard they were considering the purchase and installation of a voting comparator system with a couple of remote receiver sites to improve portable coverage, but I'm not sure if they ever got this done. I'm not sure why they didn't have the narrowband emission designators added to KNAO474 when it was renewed back in January, but my guess is Chief Ball received the renewal letter from the FCC and either he or someone on his staff went on line and did the renewal not realizing they could have applied for the modification to add the narrowband emission designator without paying any coordination or licensing fees at the same time they filed for the renewal. I will give him a call to discuss this.
