I was taking a look at the latest changes to San Mateo County and saw that the Holy Cross Cemetary just got updated.

San Mateo County, California (CA) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

I am considering this post in light of the new Uniden HP-1 scanner.

What is the point of putting an itinerant/business/MURS frequency in the database without a tone? I'd like to ask the original submitter if the frequency was CSQ, or if it was just not recorded?

The problem is that this frequency is going to be installed in the HP-1 and it will be tagged with the default location for San Mateo County.

...so anytime you're in SMC, you'll be scanning an 'open' MURs frequency. Now if we lived out in the boondocks, no problem. But you can almost be assured that there is going to be a lot of chatter on MURS/itinerants/etc.

So what do you think? I think we should somehow limit these entries. Either give them a small radius (e.g. 0.5 miles), or make sure that they include tone information...

I like this idea of including a small radius for stores, etc. Right now, we can only set radius' for subcategories and talkgroup categories, not for individual frequencies and talkgroups.

The new Uniden scanner is one of many scanner/software packages to make use of the database and this definitely is an issue to consider when entering frequencies and for future RR database enhancement.

That's why I released the ticket and asked in the db forum about MURS.

Somebody else must have picked it up and entered it.

MURS w/o tone for an entire county is useless imho.

Thanks, I'll go look.

As any fyi, since we're talking about it, I was a little disappointed at the shape of our db wrt HP-1. Lots of good radio data, but we're really short on location information. Many of the cities in Santa Clara county have county-wide location information...

How does one input location info?
And BTW I was the one with the MURS Holy Cross entery-and I agree on the un-usefulness without a pl. I tried monitoring today and came up with no PL-I'll try again, maybe its possible they could be using DCS. And a location radius of a mile or less would make sense too
