I was looking into building a outdoor antenna for my BCT15x. Would this do okay for general police scanning?

I know im not gonna get wide and reception but will it be a lot better then the stock ant?

Any one build one? Should I build something else?

Would it be better to buy something?

Just trying to get an idea of what I should do. Thanks!

I've had a few of them over the years.
They work great for local VHF, Civilian and Military air, and SatCom.

NOT great for the 800 MHz band.

But, they're easy enough to build and try out.

I built one and had pretty good results in the VHF low to UHF range. I really don't monitor anything in the 800 MHz range, so I can't testify to that. As rbm said, I can't imagine that it would do very well on 800.
