Good Morning Everyone,

Hopefully you all had a safe, enjoyable and happy thanksgiving.

I had a few questions I was hoping someone could answer.

1. What's the real differences between the Home Patrol 1 & 2 scanners? More specifically, how do the differences in the scanners affect monitoring in Delaware?

Home Patrol 1:

Amazon.com: Uniden Public Safety Receiver (HOMEPATROL): Electronics

Home Patrol 2:

Amazon.com: Unidem HomePatrol II TouchScreen Digital Scanner APCO P25 Phase 1 and 2 !: Electronics

2. What are the differences in APCO Phases 1 & 2? Is Phase 2 when things were "Rebanded?"

A buddy of mine, is talking about getting a Home Patrol scanner and was asking me if he needed to get the Home Patrol 2 to listen (primarily in Delaware).

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks!

A quick look at the Delaware database gives the opinion that the HP 1 would be sufficient for now.

The HP 1 only does up to P25 Phase 1, the HP 2 can handle up to P25 Phase 2. The HP 2 also has an extra processor over the HP 1 from what I've read. From what I've seen in the Delaware database, the would be no real difference that would affect monitoring Delaware between the 2 scanners. There is some DMR use in Delaware which you will not be able to monitor with any scanner.

The differences between Phase 1 and Phase 2 can be found in the wiki. APCO Project 25 - The RadioReference Wiki

Rebanding is a whole other issue and has nothing to do with Phase 2. Also in the wiki. Rebanding - The RadioReference Wiki

No difference when monitoring Delaware. Database is the same or you can make a custom one. HP-2 has a nice case and uses USB for Charging/Power.
What are the differences in APCO Phases 1 & 2?
P25 Phase I uses FDMA, P25 Phase II is 2-4 Slot TDMA.
Is Phase 2 when things were "Rebanded?"
No. Rebanding has no relevance to P25 Phase II. The HP-1 is fine for Delaware if you want to monitor Delaware only. If you want to monitor a few systems in MD (Kent Co, Maryland FIRST, PG County), the HP-2 would be required.

Your simple answer is both radios will work currently for monitoring Delaware County.

For a more detailed answer on the differences between P1 and P2: APCO Project 25 - The RadioReference Wiki

My suggestion would be the Home Patrol-II as it is future proof when and if the newer MARCS:IP system switches from P1 to P2. I have both radios and currently have no issues monitoring the systems in Delaware County.
