Does anyone have a home patrol1 sacnner. I would like to know if they are worth the money or what is as good or even BETTER. Using to monitor Police traffic and other state & local.

sacalit, I would recommend the Uniden Home Patrol Hp-1. I am very happy with the HP-1.It is a geat scanner.I use mine both at home and in my car with a mobile antenna.Uniden has then on their web site that have been re furbished( Like new with a warranty) for $429.00. I bought mine for less than and got a great deal.Deals can be made you just have to look around and find them. If you would like to find a Uniden Hp-1 with a deal like I got on mine please send me a pm and I will let you know.Thank You.
Another idea would be to also ask this question in the local state forum on this site. Since the HP-1 relies so much on the condition of the local database information here on RR, you might want to check and see if some people in your local area are also using the HP-1. They'll tell you how effective it is for your specific county or state.

I am a very severe and staunch critic of the Home Patrol 1. With that being said, I just received a Home Patrol with the extreme upgrade. The extreme upgrade is well worth the price. I got everything in one shot, so when I opened the box, the extreme upgrade was already there. Its like having a 396/996XT and the HP1 in one single device.
I've only had the HP1e for a few days, but am quite happy with it. I have heard content as much as 3 or 4 counties away with the HP1e, my 396XT struggled to hear one county away where I live. I don't know the reasons for the difference in reception, but I am enjoying having a much wider listening radius as my mobility is very limited.
The 396/996XT is a very good radio that is (IMHO) better then the HP1, but the HP1e is an excellent choice for anyone looking for the best of both worlds.
