I have 2 Home Patrol 1 units. I will give one to my brother. I updated both units to 2.04.

One HP 1 (unit B) does not pick up my local police dept on 155.xxxx. I entered the same zip code and checked the squelch. Unless I am mistaken, I did no other modifications. Actually Unit B unit does not pick up other frequencies that Unit A is getting such as another local police dept. I can put my local police department channel on Unit B via the lock (press screen) but it still does not pick it upi.

Any idea what I did or is the unit B defective?

Thanks.

Do you have the service type set? Range setting?
Did you put it into a favorite and load it that way or from the total database?

Swap antennas - try the one on unit A on unit B, and vice versa. If the signal stays on unit A, then either programming or hardware in unit B is suspect. If the signal goes with unit B, the antenna originally on unit B is dead.

The stock antennas on my HPs have been junk. I went with the Diamond SRH789 which is available from places like Universal Radio. To say it's the best antenna I've ever used on a handheld scanner is not an exaggeration.

Things I would check... You said you updated the firmware did you also update the database so they are both the same version under advanced? Also like one of the others said did you pick the service types to be the same on both? After you put in your zip code and it pulls in your area database when it says "now loading" then it selects the channels and shows the number just before it starts scanning see if the count is the same. You can then go to menu then service type and make sure they are all the same on both scanners. First time I programmed my area it only had 22 channels then I found the service types and selected all of them that I wanted and I had over 400 channels and talk groups for my area.

Good luck,
Mike

Jay, did you purchase the extreme update?

Yes, all my HPs have the extreme upgrade, but that won't affect reception.
