I ve had my new home patrol 1 about a week now. Cool little unit but I'm not thrilled about the maximum volume. I use this at home inside and for me, i really need the volume at max, the unit fairly close and little to no back ground noise to really make out what they are saying. I know their are amplified external speakers for the vehicle, but how about in the house? Thx.

As UPMan suggests, powered computer speakers work quite well for scanners. Especially when using handheld models that only have a headphone jack.

That seems a bit odd. I have mine set at volume 5 at 50cm distance and it's pretty loud and sit on top of a UBC780 at almost half volume that sounds about equal in strenght. My BCD536 are set at volume 8 and the TRX-2 at 6 and all sound about equal and all scanners are stacked on top of each other.

I programmed NOAA weather into the HP1, hooked up a pair of computer speakers, plugged the speaker plug into the HP1, and the USB plug into the computer. results was a beautiful amplified transmission

got super excited until I tried other freq already in the HP1 all I got was a loud terrible Hum
where did I go wrong?

Is that USB for powering the speakers? Then you could also try a seperate USB mains power source.
Maybe you already have cell phone charger that could be used.

UBBE thank you for suggestion to power the speakers with an iPhone USB Charger and NOT the computer sound system. Worked great, I could not be happier with the results .

I hooked it up to a RS set of powered computer spekers/sub and it made a big difference, however sometimes it seems you can't fully understand the officers transmission. Headquarters sounds clear and understandable. Thanks for the tip.
