I purchased a Home Patrol 2 a couple weeks ago. Using the stock antenna and living 12 miles from the nearest police dept. I was ready to put the scanner back in the box and request a refund. Being a new user, I read many forums to see what I was missing. I dowloaded the extreme upgrade after finally learning how to enter the scanner number into the Sentinel software to unlock the key. The only scanner I every owned before the HP2 was a 12 channel analog Uniden bearcat self entering frequencies on an outside antenna. I knew what a difference an outside antenna could make. After finally ordering the right adapter to hook to my outside antenna (female SMA to female F) and receiving it today after ordering the wrong one the first time. I found out that a female looks like a male and a male looks like a female when it comes to coaxial connections. I got the Uniden HP2 hooked up on the outside antenna today. I have decided to keep it. It is picking up great. I can just imagine what it would do with a discone or well built antenna. You should see my dinky antenna on my roof. Anyway just thought I would post some info because I did read lots of posts from people who were soured on the HP 1&2 and ready to box there HP1 and HP 2 up and ship them back requesting a refund. If you’re new to scanning, read the forums and gather all the knowledge you can before sending your scanner back. I’m hoping to learn more about analyzing frequencies on HP2 extreme upgrade.
Things I don’t like about the HP2: you cannot run it off AC current. The touchscreen is not large enough to see what frequency is transmitting when your scanner is on a desk at a distance. It doesn’t come with the 50 dollar extreme upgrade! The holder is dinky!
