Thinking of buying a BCD436HP Handheld scanner. Any reviews or comments?

It is a great scanner, versatile. If your area has simulcast issues it does not do well in that environment. A lot depends on the system. I love mine and have it in my car. Does everything I want and need it to do.

I travel a lot and simulcast is becoming more prevalent so I switched my primary scanner from 436 to the SDS series. I have a 200 for the car and a 100 for everything else. I had Jon Wienke install the GPS in the 100. My biggest concern was the simulcast. Nothing but the SDS series will handle simulcast AND scan.

The 436 a great scanner for everything but simulcast. For that, you need a SDS100.

Oh my, good thing you didn't buy anything. Police dispatch and the three Tac channels for Meriden Connecticut are full-time encryption.

The state of Connecticut recently switched over or is in the process of switching over to a tdma Phase 2 Statewide system for State Police Etc.

If I could recommend, go to the Connecticut state forum and confirm your hometowns full-time encryption. See if there's any talk of them switching over to the Statewide system. Do your homework, before you spend a dime.

I have a Uniden SDS 100 and it's great too,but I was looking into the Home Patrol and it looks more complicated. The SDS 100 was/is a bit of a learning curve but the HP looks like you have to enter each system...??

No. It has a database like the x36 and SDS lines, but with fewer options.

And the others do??
The original poster is asking about getting a 436 and wanted reviews and comments. I asked him where he lived and looked up his hometown which... of course he would want to listen to and told him his police dispatch and 3 secondary police channels are full-time encrypted. We haven't heard from him since.

Another poster made a positive comment and endorsed the 436... I made a well-intended joke regarding his endorsement. -Shrug- perhaps just a failure to communicate on my part. No offense meant to anybody here. And that goes for the bcd436 also... whew.

Sorry I thought the post was about the Home Patrol model. I replied hoping to get more info on the programming and so on. I like the Extreme kit you can purchase.

I own a 436 and a HP-2, I like them both but if I had to choose one it would definitely be the 436.
