RR should hold a contest. Whoever guesses closest to the price of the HomePatrol on Scannermaster.com gets a free one. :D

My guess would be $499.95

I am going to go out on a limb here and say closer to $589.99. Probably the crooks up here in Canada will want $650 Canadian.

Not to hijack a thread, but if they are up over $550 I will be looking at spending that much cash on that IPad touch I have been eyeballing.

Ridiculous

If the 996XT and 396XT prices came down to a respectable price range after this thing is released, I would probably snatch a few up for myself and family. But I don't see it happening... I mean, as long as these digital capable radios have been around there has been very little price change. Looking at the wiki, a quick glance shows at least since 2004. That is six years now and the prices are still half a grand? I am sorry, but it's a bit on the ridiculous side for tech to not become more affordable as time passes.

Anyway, yeah, I would buy the 396XT for myself if the prices came down after HPs release.
Ridiculous.......Is that like hilarious????????????

Crystals?

Sorry, but that is too new for me. I desire and admire that warm, orange glow from the back of MY radio.

I have a radio that glows orange out of the back, but it still has crystals...hehehe

I'm gonna be buying one of these. I travel quite a bit and the ease of popping in a zip code and listening has already won me over. I have a 396t and 996t, but as stated earlier, you waste a lot of time searching and programming, only to find out that you have the wrong system or area programmed.

The fidelity is just not the same these days. ;)

Okay, it's my turn to go out on a limb. After all I have read, and with much thoughtful consideration of the issue, my best guess is $399.95. Because of the target market, and considering what the XT series costs, I don't see how it could realistically cost more than $400 if sales volume is important (and it wouldn't surprise me if it is closer to $350). Also, I remember Paul saying something like we would be pleasantly surprised when we learn the price. I won't be happy if it costs as much or more than the "real" receivers like the XTs, and I hope I win a nice prize for the correct guess!

They will not sell it for $199, that's the same price as RS/GRE's analog-only consumer scanners. Another vote for $399 here.

I found this by accident on the AES website:
UNI HOMEPATROL UNIDEN INTUITIVE TOUCHSCN SCAN $529.99

I cant confirm if its the final price or not, but there it is, 2+ months ahead of its release.
It even has shipping info if you hit 'ADD TO CART'

AES Price list

That sounda fishy to me as UPMAN said that it hasn't been F.C.C. approverd.

I realize that, but that is ALL very old technology as far as technology goes. I mean, memory is dirt cheap these days with NAND and the like prices dropping like stones. So while it is nice that the additional channel storage and such did not cause any significant rise in the retail prices, it is not so nice that the prices have not come down pretty much at all.

The DRAM in your PC is dirt cheap.

The SRAM incorporated into a microcontroller, microprocessor, or DSP is still pretty pricey - especially when you're talking 1MB or more (based on Paul's above "Virtually unlimited channels (1MB of channels at a time...)", which leads me to believe the HP loads "active channels" into a big chunk of SRAM).

The prices have come down a bit. When the first P25 trunk-tracker came out in 2003, it was ~$500. The current digital trunk-trackers are ~$500. Today's $500 is less than 2003's (adjusted for the CPI from 09/2003 until 05/2010, 2003's $500 would be about $590 today). And this doesn't even count the increases in features and capabilites.

Personal opinion; 399.00 would be A Lot smarter than the 500.00+ pricepoint.

1) You're selling this to new users; I'm not sure someone who isn't a hobbyist would lay out six bills just for the curiosity of seeing what the local constabulary is cooking.

2) Unless I've missed something on the conversations on this radio, it would be the anti-hobbyist's layout: sure it's pretty, but it's not selective. You pop in your zip code, and it throws the kitchen sink at you. You Hardcore Harrys would spend almost as much time fiddling with the back end to make it useful to you by pinching off unwanted frequencies as you do pushing new frequencies into your current rigs. And, again - maybe I missed it - this whole favorites thing sounds like you can listen to favorite A OR favorite B OR favorite C, as opposed to any combination of the three with your current hoidy-toidy machinery. God knows you channelheads don't confuse easily... but Pa Gadget isn't up for too much frustration when he's pushing his GUI.

When you spend mucho dinero on your multitrunking,. 3 million channel digital demons, you're paying for that kind of flexibility. To My Limited Understanding, this is pretty much a one-bank digital trunker that has a place where you can swap the bank. Damn handy, but not worth the bucks you've laid out for your war machines.

I want to know how is the Home Patrol going to work as you travel in your car? Putting in the zip code is nice but how does that help you when you travel through many zip codes on the way to work? I don't own a GPS but would that help? How much information does the unit hold when you travel with a GPS... Just some random thoughts when I compare it to my current setup with the 996XT using banks to change locations as I travel to work and back.

OK, that's the second retailer who has jumped the gun and posted a price over $500. Based on that, and the fact that AES typically charges slightly higher prices than other outlets (i.e., $20 to $30 more), this suggests the price will be around $500. So, I'm with the folks who are guessing at ~$499.99... :)

GPS is ideal for this situation (or longer travel distances...even better). It holds the entire US and Canada database.

W/O a GPS, you'd either want to set a range that would encompass your entire drive to work or create a favorites list for the drive. Down side to not using GPS is that it will try to receive all selected channels the entire route.
