I have a Home Patrol and live here in Iowa City,Ia. but cannot receive P25. Can anyone help?I have been monitoring since 1956 and was a member since the mid 1970s.
Home Patrol to receive P25 police transmissions in Iowa City,Iowa,Can it be done?

All law traffic in Johnson County (and Linn) is encrypted, meaning no scanner will be able to pick it up. Iowa County is P25 Phase 2, so a Home Patrol 1 cannot receive that. A Home Patrol 2 might, depending on your location.
SARA Network Trunking System, Various, Iowa - Scanner Frequencies (radioreference.com) is a link to the Johnson County talkgroups on SARA Network - anything with "DE" is encrypted, "D" is not encrypted. I don't have a Home Patrol and I'm not familiar with setting them up, but someone else might be able to jump in to get you to hear the fire talkgroups.

A work around where you can at least "see" who is talking is Unitrunker or other control channel decoding programs. Check here for more information Forum: Control Channel Decoding
