Hi guys,

I'm new to scanning and have nothing but very basic knowledge of how radios work. Recently, I made a QFH antenna with PVC pipes and coax cables using a design I found online. The plan was to use it with my Realistic Pro 2006 to receive NOAA satellites. However, I cannot receive a clear signal no matter what I do. So the question is: Is my receiver even capable of receiving such signals? I did a google search and found out that I need the WFM mode and 50KHz filter. Now, I do have the WFM and the receiver covers the required NOAA frequencies but I have no Idea about the filter. Another thing is that I could not manage to build the antenna exactly according to the design (I mean not with the 1/10cm tolerance levels). So is that causing the problem? The only signal I've been able to receive was a faint beeping from NOAA 17 but the S/N ratio was too low to decode. I have tried moving the antenna but that didn't help either.

Thank you all in adcance:)

Show us a link to this antenna you built and the freqs you are monitoring, that would be a good start for anyone to help you.
Also from what i read, if the elements are twisted in the wrong direction you won't receive much of anything. Just a suggestion. :)
