Not today... (unless you don't mind the firmware release itself being delayed). :)

"There is no discriminator in an AM receiver."
And FM discriminators typically don't demodulate baseband AM. Note last sentence first paragraph of this RR Wiki entry on discriminators as an example of why I asked. It was a legitimate question as Paul clearly stated the digitized stream was from the discriminator and there is interest in more than just baseband FM output. Paul answered the question with a sample that indicates that the digitized stream includes AM demodulation also. How the engineers do it is outside of this thread...Thanks Paul for the response.

Here is literally all I have on it:

Code:
4.3 Raw Data Output
Discriminator A/D sampling raw data (10 bit signed data) will be output by the radio.
10 bit data will be divided into High byte and Low byte, see data format in next table.
*Data Format
  b7 b6 b5 b4 b3 b2 b1 b0
H 1 0 0 bit9 bit8 bit7 bit6 bit5
L 0 0 0 bit4 bit3 bit2 bit1 bit0

More questions for engineering -

What is the sample rate of the 10 bit A/D ?
What is the baud rate for the USB port (I'm assuming RS232 emulation).

The two character sample format takes 20 bits (each character is a start bit, a stop bit, and 8 data bits). Using the two byte format, the max sample rate is 5760 for a 115,200 bps connection. I hope the HP-1 connection is much faster. 48k samples per second or better is desirable.
That would require almost 1 megabit.

If the connection isnt emulating RS232 this may be okay.

Byte order is [High] [Low]. Bit9 is the signed bit.

Others I don't have info on right now. Tough deadlines...

I can say that I am holding in my hand the release candidate for final testing and approval. The end is near (or is it just the beginning?).

Oh, and another in the continuing YouTube series is now up for viewing. This time, Trunking Discovery mode.

Off in a far away place, far from u.......
I just wanted to say thank you Uniden and Upman for all the hard work u have been doing the past few weeks for all of us.

I do not understand most of the things that are in the future update and upgrade, other than the basics, and look forward to learning some new things really soon.

I purchased my key and everything worked when I was ordering it. I am glad to see that the files will be out soon. I waited and waited just to see what is a coming to all of us first before buying it, and truthfully think it is a very nice thing Uniden and Upman has done for us during the prerelese by offering the upgrade at a discounted price. I probably won't use half the things right now, but like where everything is going on the Home Patrol, and think after the update and upgrades, this scanner will be top dog for a couple years.

Thanks again,
now email me a prerelease of the update will ya!!!!!!!!.....lol

I second your comment - Uniden, and more specifically Paul, has done a fantastic job of keeping us in the know and giving us the opportunity to opt in for this upgrade at 1/2 the price.

Upgrade won't take

I bought the extreme upgrade and got my key last night and followed the extreme upgrade manual but the upgrade won't take in the HP1.
Sentinel says all firmware is current and when instructions in the EU manual are followed there is no new headings in the Advanced Menu to click to enter key.
Version info is as follows;
Firmware Version: 1.03
Database Version: 08/07/2011
Help Version: 07/14/2010

Running Windows 7.
I'm following instructions on page 4 of the EU manual but there is no "MASS STORAGE " mode to choose but there is a Windows pane "AUTO PLAY" that asks "REMOVABLE DISK E" "MIXED CONTENT OPTIONS" and "GENERAL OPTIONS" with different options to pick from.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?.

Smoke - you do realize that the upgrade doesn't exist yet, correct?

And yet the sample provided by Paul is clearly ACARS:

It also looks extremely noisy.

A discriminator is a necessary part of a circuit that can demodulate FM. It has no use on an AM signal. There might be a common point in the radio where baseband audio from an FM signal (the discriminator's output) and unprocessed audio from an AM signal are both available, depending on which mode is being received at the moment.

ACARS can be decoded perfectly from speaker or earphone audio. Digital modes sent via FM cannot.

Well...... That's what happens when you can't sleep and start skimming the forums at 3 AM and think you missed something (like the release) and then blearily try to install a non existant upgrade and pound the laptop and desktop to splinters while the Uniden help desk ignores you and you curse Bill Gates and everyone else EXCEPT your self for being morons. Can I go back to sleep know? Thank you rdale .....
